File transfer Macintosh <-> HP48 ?

Hi there,

anyone successful with connecting an HP48 (GX here) to a modern Mac
running macOS 10.13?

I connected mine via the original HP 4-pin to RS232 9-pin-cable and an
RS232 to USB cable (this one from UGREEN with FTDI chipset:
http://www.ugreen.com.cn/product-681-en.html – works perfectly with my
Apple Newtons).

Then, via Homebrew, I installed C-Kermit 9 on my Mac.

Then I found this http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/hp48.html and
configured kermit on my Mac accordingly (using my serial device, of
course, not COM1).

I set wired everything up and put the HP48GX into server mode.

I tried to send a short file (HP's INPRT.GX) and, indeed, the HP48's
screen confirmes that it wants to receive this file. Alas, no packets
get received. :-(

Anyone more lucky than me? I'd be grateful for any hints!

Thanks a lot,
Stefan.

Have you tried Hoppi (see www.cloudycat.com)?

I know it runs on 10.12 so hopefully it will also work on 10.13. I myself (the author of Hoppi) am stuck on 10.11 until I can upgrade my Mac.

Please let me know if it works for you,
Paul

Hello Paul

and thanks for your valuable hint! Hoppi didn't show up on any of my
Google searches. :-(

Funny thing: I was again fiddling with the macOS commandline version of
C-Kermit and – guess what – just successfully transfered my first file
from my Mac to my good old HP48GX!
Here's the command that helped: ROBUST
After I entered it at the Kermit prompt on the Mac the transfer worked
fine! :-)

Then I read your posting with the hint towards Hoppi. I just downloaded
and tried it – and it works fine, too! Even under macOS 10.13.3! :-)

EXCELLENT!!
I'll write a little blog post about these two possible solutions
because when I try this in a couple of years again I can refer to my
written-down knowledge. ;-)

So thanks again, Paul!
Cheers,
Stefan.
