There is no FLASH ROM in the 48GX. So there is no software-way to change the
ROM. I want a buy one 48GX and I see that there are differen ROM versions.
What are the differences between HP48-P and HP48-R ROMs?
Is it true that the "P"-version has some errors. If it is, what kind of
errors?
Thank you for your time!

Thanks a lot, very usefull FAQ, I found a lot of answers I was looking for.
I had read the HP49's FAQ but I forgot to take a look at the 48's one.
But one question still remains, Can I use a step-by-step mode for
integration problem solving. In the comparison sheets, there is written
that it has "Step-by-step Numeric & Symbolic Solve", Is this the same, I
think no?
And why the HP49G has this option marked as "Enhancement"? What does
"Enhancemet" mean? I am asking this because, I want to "upgrade" from my
48SX and I must choose between the 48GX and the 49G+.
Thanks again! I know these are "newbie-questions" but I already read a lot
of information and I can not still orient myself.

48 series calcs have reliable keyboard (suitable for number crunching) and
professional look which 49 series lack. Apart of that 49 is miles ahead and
for you are gonna use it it's the only choice.
cheers

I understand that the 49g+ has many advantages but what I see on hpcalc.org,
is that the 48's serie has an enormous legacy of software written for it.
Because I am starting now my electrical engineering education, I think, may
be, the 48gx, with its EE-pro card will be a great help for me. At this
point of time it looks to me so, that the 49g+ has not so much software in
the Electrical Engineering section. May be this will change with the time,
may be I will port some of my amateur-source from c++ to the calc or even
write something new in User RPL, too :).
But for the beginning, what do you think?
Am I looking in the right direction?

Except that this will not work on the 48GX...

You can try HP48xgcc, but it doesn't have a hundreth the features or speed.

X
Get the 49g+
Con: physical endurance is poor
Pro: faaaaster
internal Flash keeps the contents
(unlike the expensive RAM cards for the 48GX)
SD card slot allows Gigabyte class expansion...
MetaKernel included
Erable included
ALG48 included
etc...

I found some errors:
If I remember some functions to manipulate String are not working properly
(TAIL for instance).

The main difference between P and R is that in version P, when you copy
a library to a card in port >= 2, then the card wasn't properly set-up
you had to manually call PINIT after each copy.

Other than that, they are pretty much the same
